DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Supreme Court is hearing arguments about the legality of an identity theft investigation against hundreds of suspected illegal immigrants who were filing taxes, without having valid Social Security numbers.

A district court judge halted the investigation in April after he ruled Weld County authorities violated people's privacy and had no probable cause to inspect their tax returns.

Anyone who earns income in the U.S. must file taxes, regardless of legal status.

The public defender's office and the American Civil Liberties Union are arguing against Weld County's appeal Thursday.

County authorities said last year as many as 1,300 suspected undocumented immigrants were using other people's identities to work and file taxes.

Before U get too outraged. Stopping hiring those illegals for landscape, cooking and washing your dirty dishes and watching your kids or picking crops to go into your local store. You go out do those tasks, then we talk.

So, let me see if I understand this. An illegal steals my social to get a job. His income taxes are legally withheld by the employer, and so far no one is the wiser. I file my taxes, and get fined for underreporting my income, have to pay back taxes and penalties, have my credit affected, and possibly my security clearance. And the ACLU thinks this is OK? What side of the now missing Berlin Wall did they wake up on?

Ok, I know that we are probably not getting the entire story just yet, but we all know that although "Anyone who earns income in the U.S. must file taxes, regardless of legal status", not everyone does. It's bad enough that a lot of the illegal aliens are here working under the table or not working at all and collecting a state or federal check, now they want to file fraudulent tax returns knowing they are not entitled to it. And the courts are saying it's an invasion of privacy? What the hell has happened to this country? Since when is it ok to file for something that an illegal alien knows they are not entitled to because they got paid under the table all year long. Just another way to make an easy buck I guess while making it harder and harder for all of us honest, hardworking AMERICANS! Karma will not only come back and get the illegal aliens doing this, but the people in the court system that is saying it is an invasion of privacy.
