The annual fall job fair at Pueblo Community College drew hundreds of job seekers, but not many employers. Organizers of the event say, it's a reflection of our economy. Still, students and community members made the best of it.

David Siguenza has a long term goal of becoming a health care administrator and used the fair as an opportunity to learn what skills employers are expecting for that type of position. He also says, the networking with potential future employers was priceless. "Something may come up, they may remember you; they may send you an e-mail, give you a call. So it gives you a step up, it's just an advantage, being prepared," says Siguenza.

Across the crowded room, a group of high school students from Walsenburg were learning a higher education may be vital to their future plans. "All of the jobs have pointed that out," says Angela Brietweiser, a sophomore. She says, the job fair helped her come to a decision about her own future. After kicking around the idea of joining the military for a while, she says, discussions with the recruiters have made that option a little bit more likely. "Paid education and you can still be enlisted in the army. I think that's what I've decided," says Brietweiser.

Joining the military and serving our country is a good solution for some; and no matter how good or bad the economy is, there is usually a recruiter or two at every job fair. But others are content with holding down a career in another field. Whatever their motivation, job seekers who visited the fall job fair at Pueblo Community College had access to some options. Just not as many as when economic times were better.
