Flames lit up the sky in Black Forest Tuesday night as firefighters fought to save a fully-engulfed home that later fell victim to the flames.

Fire officials say the fire happened in a single-family house, located on Milam Road in Black Forest, around 9 p.m. Tuesday. Five fire departments responded, including the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Flames jumped into the air and the night sky burned bright with orange and red as the flames as firefighter did all that they could to save the home and the trees surrounding the area.

In the end though, all that remained of the home was the structure and billows of thick black smoke.

Lieutenant Kathy Russell from Black Forest Fire And Rescue says the fire could be seen from far away, "when the first engine was approaching the scene, long before they'd even reached the scene, they did radio ahead to say they could see flames and smoke through the trees before they'd even arrived."

I have stayed in this historic home with my in-laws. It was an amazing building which grew as the family grew. It breaks my heart to see this and know all the memorabilia that was lost along with the house itself.
