I am very happy to say that Kayla is doing better and that the outpouring of support from our community has been amazing. Our cafe does an ongoing Kayla special and people come in and ask what more they can do-and they are complete strangers. The ignorant comments have been seen by the family and it is hateful and unhelpful, thus should be kept to themselves.

I grew up with Jeff and Kayla. And I just heard of this from family in Canon. They are both amazing people and she needs all the help she can get. The Money isn't for them, it is for her parents. They like so many Americans have to be going through hard times. Give as much as you can even if it is a dollar.

I am a military wife and mother of two. I also know Kayla somewhat distantly through a relative of hers, but I've met her a few times. She's a very strong individual, she's been through a lot. Being a military wife, I know that if it was me in this situation...what the military pays is DEFINITELY not enough to cover what my husband and my other family would be needing. People are so quick to criticize, they assume that because the military covers our health care that we get paid well. We do not. I personally am donating to Kayla. My husband is Afghanistan and I am caring for two small children...a 2 year old recovering from h1n1 herself...but I am donating everything I have leftover this month to try to make this easier for them. Please don't be judgemental and find it in your hearts to give.

My prayers and thoughts are with her and her family. Just to let those of you know her account is set up to help the family out. The medical expenses may be paid for but they are taking care of her 2 children and they have to travel out of town to go see her and like Elle said what does it matter, they aren't using this tragic situation to just get money, they need it who cares what they need it for!!

Thank you all for your prayers for my cousin Kayla. We love her very much and hope to God that she pulls through. And thank you Elle, for speaking up when some people (Shazaam) should just keep their mouth shut or at least think about what they are saying before actually saying it. The family is having a difficult time as it is with trying to cope with Kayla's illness, they shouldn't have to worry about bills and expenses traveling back and forth to take care of the boys and to see their daughter in the hospital. That is why the account is set up for them. Even in this challenging time with the economy the way it is, I am very grateful that there are people out there that would help out in a terrible situation such as this.

My daughter is recovering from H1N1 that developed into ARDS. She has been in ICU since Oct. 9th and was fighting for her life as well till she received a new injectable anti-viral Peramivir that saved her life by stopping the spread of H1N1 virus in her lungs. The drug is available to ICU patients under a FDA emergency use authorization if oral anti-virals aren't absorbing and the patient continues to be H1N1 positive. I have setup a recovery and H1N1 awareness blog that might be helpful to others recovering from the H1N1 virus. http://www.athenagurno.info/blog

Collecting money to help the family pay for gas to drive to and from Canon to springs. Help cover the hotel rooms, help with missed work, rent utilities. Giving a helping hand when people we know are in need. Thanks Elle.

My wife and I are good friends with Jeff and Kayla Kammrad. We were shocked to hear that she is so sick. Our prayers are with the Kammrad family. Kayla is a strong person. I am happy that the community is coming together to help raise money for the family. God bless Kayla!!!!

Hey Shazam, there are more financial issues than just the medical bills and they may need other assistance. Perhaps she is employed as an hourly wage employee and now being in the hospital there is less money for essentials like groceries, utilities, etc. Simply being in the military does not cover everything and why do you care for that matter? I don't care if they need money to take the kids to the movies to take their minds off of the situation that their Mom is in. I would give regardless.

If her husband is in the military, their medical is 100% covered. Not understanding why they are collecting money for medical bills. Hope she comes through ok.
