Colorado health officials have decided to temporarily eliminate a regulation involving medical marijuana caregivers, putting off a final decision until next month.

The state health board took action Tuesday because members are concerned their definition of who can provide patients with medical marijuana contradicted a ruling last week from the Colorado Court of Appeals.

The board has said that anyone who supplies the drug should be considered a caregiver under the state's voter-approved medical marijuana law. But the appeals court ruled that caregivers must have personal contact with medical marijuana patients and do more to help a patient with a debilitating condition that merely provide them with the drug.

Peter Trujillo, Manager of Trichome Health Consultants in Old Colorado City tells 11 News the regulations would require him to provide more services to his patients.

He says operating costs would go up because he would have to hire more employees to provide these supplemental services.

"We welcome regulations as far as letting us know exactly what perimeters we need to operate it. But they don't need to over analyze it or I guess put their thumb down too hard," said Peter Trujillo, Manager of Trichome Health Consultants.

Trujillo goes on to say if too many regulations are imposed, it will be be harder for patients to get medical marijuana. He fears they will revert back to buying the drugs off the street.

The health board will make a final decision on Dec. 16.

Do pharmacists generally know their patients and do more than provide prescription drugs? Don't pharmacists sometimes fill prescriptions for patients who aren't even present in the pharmacy? Why is there a different set of rules for Medical Marijuana?

I am for rules and regulations. This is just going way to far. As it is the cost of my medicine is very expensive, if you add more costs I will have to resort back to what I did before by buying off streets. Right now I am able to live a somewhat normal life.. not in pain all the time. Peoples outlook on Marijuana needs to change! It starts with the media. I am following the law, dont judge me just because its Marijuana that helps me rather than alochol or addictive pain medication. Because I am able to get my medication I am able to live a normal live and work a normal job. If Marijuana was taken away or limited to the point where I can't afford to access it I will not be able to work and live life normally. I don't want to go on federal assistance I would rather take care of myself. We all need to work together to build the laws. Please stop judging people and places... they are following the law.

I've never been a medical marijuana patient, but I've known two people who legitimately use it for that purpose. One was a good friend who eventually died from stomach cancer at age 31, the other is a friend who is in constant pain due to a horrible accident. I'm thankful that places like Pete's exist. I know Pete runs a clean, professional place. I hope the Powers-that-Be do not make it even more difficult for legitimate marijuana medical providers and their patients. At this point, I truly believe alcohol does much more damage than marijuana. I am not a drinker OR a smoker, but I believe alcohol abuse is a problem that far outweighs the good that marijuana does for many people. However, alcohol is more "white collar" than marijuana, and I believe that's why alcohol gets a pass so many times and marijuana is always treated like the 'red-headed' stepchild!
