Drive-by Shooting

Colorado Springs Police responded to a call of gunfire at the intersection of Austin Bluffs and Academy Friday afternoon. Now, they have arrested at least one man.

Around 2:30 p.m., a black Cadillac and a white GMC Yukon were waiting at the intersection when the people in the Cadillac opened fire at the Yukon.

Police say the driver of the Yukon, 26 year-old Murshin Redmond, returned fire and accidentally shot his girlfriend in the arm who was sitting in the passenger seat. She was treated at Penrose Community Hospital and released.

Police arrested Redmond on suspicion of first degree assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Earlier in the day, a fire damaged the home of Redmond's parents in Falcon after a lit cigarette butt was left in a can on the back porch. Wind apparently tipped over the can.

Authorities say the two incidents are not connected.
