The hostage identified himself as PFC Keith Matthew Maupin. He said he
is a soldier in the United States Army First division and is married
with a 10-month-old son. He said he came to Iraq to liberate and wanted
to stay with his son and did not go willingly.
The hostage-takers said he was in good health and being treated
according to Shari'ah laws. They want to exchange him
for prisoners under the custody of U.S. Occupation Forces.
The hostage-takers said Martin abandoned his Hammer vehicle and he was waiving a white flag with his face down on the ground.
Maupin is from Battavia, Ohio.
