A Colorado Springs teenager is rolling up his sleeves to help out his community, and he's urging other kids to do the same.

Ian Snatchko and several of his friends gave up part of their weekend to do some handy work at a local soup kitchen.

Everyday, staff and volunteers at the Marian House Soup Kitchen serve over 600 meals.

Frank Mora is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Marian House. Mora says their mission is "To give the people the opportunity to help themselves to become better individuals."

The facility might be brand new, but it's not perfect. Mora says, "The staff has realized that there are certain areas that need to be touched up."

One area in particular was the walls in cafeteria and family room. This did not go unnoticed by 16 year old Ian Snatchko, who regularly volunteers at the soup kitchen. He saw the dents and scratches on the walls and decided to do something about it.

For his Eagle Scout project, he and several of his friends put up reinforced fiberglass plastic panels to protect the walls from being damaged.

Snatchko enjoys volunteering and encourages other kids to do the same. He says, "I think that a bunch of kids should get out and help out their communities."

Aside from donations, Ian also used the money he earned mowing lawns over the summer to help buy all the materials.

The Marian House is always looking for volunteers. If you would like to get involved, visit their website at http://www.ccharitiescs.org/.
