Pueblo in now one of only 30 cities in the nation, and the only on in Colorado, with a non-emergency phone number that's just as easy to dial as 911.
Now, Pueblo residents can dial 311 to reach any department in the city for a non-emergency situation. The calls automatically go to the City Clerk's office and they will determine what department the caller needs to speak with. Then, the person is simply transferred.
The idea originated in Baltimore, Maryland six years ago.
So far, 311 is getting about 130 calls a day in Pueblo.
The new non-emergency number should from any phone in Pueblo, including cellular phones. Outside the city, people can call Pueblo's main number, 553-CITY.
