A San Isabel volunteer firefighter and Vietnam veteran will have to serve one year of probation and pay a $500 fine for stealing fire equipment in California.
Fifty-five year-old John Gilbert Herrera, Jr. was accused
of stealing $5000 in equipment from a California command center.
He plead guilty to misdemeanor charges of destruction of government property and trespassing in a national forest.
Herrera's lawyer says his client still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder from his years of service which interferes with his ability to think clearly.
