The U.S. attorney's office is arguing that the officers were
acting as federal agents and following federal laws.

Routt County Judge James Garrecht issued the contempt
charges in January, but the case was transferred to a federal judge
in Denver. The case highlights a conflict between state and federal
laws.

In Colorado, residents can obtain a state certificate to use
medicinal marijuana. Under federal law, there is no legal use of
marijuana. Experts say the case has the potential to go to the U.S.
Supreme Court for a final decision.
