Ready for Disaster

If wildfires ravage Colorado this summer, state officials say they'll be ready for them... at least financially.

Despite tight budget constraints, Colorado lawmakers say they have enough money to fight wildfires. About $200 million has been set aside by the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights in reserve funds.

The dry spring could mean a repeat of 2002, the worst wildfire season in modern Colorado history. The fires cost the state more than $23 million and destroyed more than 300 homes.
