Kidnapping Verdict

At 8:00 Friday evening, an El Paso County jury of 12 found Jaime Duran guilty for First Degree Kidnapping, Sexual Assault, Menacing and Stalking.

Prosecutors Jeff Lindsey and Holly Dodge presented evidence during the two week jury trial that on June 26, 2006, Duran kidnapped his estranged wife outside of her residence as she arrived home from work at approximately 10:30 pm. The victim, who is an El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy, testified at trial that Duran approached her with a handgun and ordered her into his Chevy Tahoe. The victim testified that she was in fear for her life and believed that Duran was going to kill her. The victim complied with Duran's demands and went with him. Duran drove the victim to a location outside of Boone, Colorado where he sexually assaulted her. The victim was later able to escape by driving away in the Tahoe when Duran went into a convenience store. The jury did not believe Duran's defense that the victim consented.

Duran faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
