Medical marijuana is a hot topic in Colorado Springs and a local business manager is concerned tonight after a visit from a local councilman.

Bill Abeyta is the manager at Sunshine Wellness Clinic and he believes there is a witch hunt after his business. This after a visit from Tom Gallagher of the Colorado Springs City Council.

"He essentially told me that he was here to let me know that our business was being targeted. And i said how so, and he said well, my boss and local law enforcement want to shut down operations like yours and others similar," says Bill Abeyta of the Sunshine Wellness Clinic.

The business is brand new to the area and it employs a staff physician to do evaluations for the medical marijuana registry.

Abeyta says around 9:30 Friday morning, Councilman Gallagher showed up, with two other men, curious about the advertising of the business.

Under Amendment 20, Abeyta says, the practices of Sunshine Wellness Center are legal.

The center does not dispense medical marijuana. The staff physician only does evaluations for the medical marijuana registry.

Councilman Tom Gallagher spoke on the phone to KKTV 11 News and this is what he had to say. "I just told him, ya know, police chief has a problem with this business and that's based on e-mails based on their presentation Monday at informal council. I look at it, it's the law... like it or not... it's the law and I am getting real tired of the city not obeying the law. So, I just told him be prepared there may be issues coming up," says Councilman Gallagher.

Gallagher goes on to say that Colorado voters authorized the use of medical marijuana and he wants to the city to obey the law.

Abeyta stresses that you can only get medical marijuana is you have certain conditions documented by a physician.

Since when is the police chief licensed to practice medicine? He's not an MD. Stick to the real crimes and let me live with my chronic illness as I see fit. Let me die with peace, dignity and pain free, which is what medical marijuana does for me.

Sure cops want to keep all marijuana use illegal. It's easier to arrest and assault a sick patient then it is a murderer or bank robber or even a meth head.

Maybe this business owner should file a lawsuit against the people that are against his business practice. If it is legal on a state level then how does the city have right to harrass them?City police is city not state.Get all of the dispensaries together and form a group to fight.I will gladly donate.Council needs to form a moratorium leaving the places that are now open alone and only go after the new ones after mondays date.
