The city of Colorado Springs continues to struggle with fixing its budget crisis. This week one city council member came up with an idea. Colorado Springs City Councilman Tom Gallagher tossed out the idea to cut the salaries of city employees.

The idea is to slice into the $145 million dollars they plan to spend on payroll next year.

It is one of many ideas the city is entertaining. City officials say everything is on the table and they'll review any idea that might help dig them out of their current city budget shortfall.

"What I see with this is a city on the edge," said Kara Whitney who is a Colorado Springs resident.

The city also released a 50 page list consisting of all their employees, their names, their titles and how much they make.

The city says they're trying to formulate ideas and ways to get back into the black. "I think there needs to be some out of the box thinking," said Whitney.

Here's what some had to say about the proposed idea of cutting city employee salaries. "I think it's crap," said Ryan Randall who is a Colorado Springs resident.

"I don't think the employees should suffer because of that," said Rick Josiah who is also a Colorado Springs resident.

"I just see that as a short term solution to a long term problem," said Whitney.

67 city employees make at least $100,000 a year.

City council will decide whether or not to slash city employee salaries come November 9th.

Do away with all social programs dealing with the illegal alliens, i.e. free meals, free shots, medical etc. They are here illegally, they are not americans and have no rights. Anyone voting for these programs should be kicked out of office immediately.

I think posting the full names was careless. I understand the information is public record, but just because you "can" post the information doesn't mean you should. In this day and age, delivering information into the lap of criminals is careless and irresponsible. I understand the need to have information with which to make decisions, but we still need demonstrate some semblence of concern for our public service employees. Why not use position numbers or employee numbers or first name and last name initial only? Many people in this country are finding it hard to make ends meet, and now pay cuts are being proposed. As if that isnt enough to deal with, you have placed every city employee in the position of possibly needing to protect themselves against identity theft and harrasement. Was the full name really worth the cost? Last I checked we were one nation, under God, indivisible. Let's try to act like we mean it and find solutions without jeopordizing our fellow citizens.

Why don't you post the salary of Tom Gallagher. Is he willing to have his salary cut?
