Apartment Fire

An apartment complex fire on Colorado Springs’ southeast side sent four people to the hospital. The fire broke out around 3:45 Tuesday afternoon in a unit of the Heritage Place Apartments. That’s near the corner of Constitution and N. Murray.

As the first crews arrived on the scene, firefighters immediately called in a second alarm for extra help. In all, about 40 firefighters battled the flames. So far, no word on what started the fire. Investigators say only one unit burned, but several others sustained smoke and water damage.

Four people were taken to Penrose Community Hospital for smoke inhalation. And the Red Cross will be helping those who may need assistance in finding another place to stay.

Because of all of the fire equipment needed to fight this fire, N. Murray was closed for several hours between Constitution and Palmer Park.

The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
