Young crooks are caught on tape, stealing a school surveillance camera. Now, thanks to a Crimestoppers tip, police have tracked down 3 suspects.

Police say three teenagers stole a surveillance camera from Penrose Elementary off of Academy and North Carefree.

Around 9 o’clock on a Sunday night, teenagers walked up to the southwest side of the school. They hid their faces as they passed by the seven surveillance cameras around the school. A minute later, one of the three teenage boys pulled himself to the top of the roof and then threw basketballs to the ground. Another boy then used those basketballs to hide his face. "It's clear they know the camera is there and it's clear their objective is to take the camera," Officer J.D. Walker with the Springs Police Dept. said.

11 News showed you the surveillance video on Wednesday night. The next morning, someone phoned in the names of 3 suspects to Crimestoppers. The same day, the camera was found in front of the school, with an apology note. All 3 suspects, an 18 year old and two 16 year olds, are facing theft charges.
