Tax Checkoff Bill

A Colorado Springs lawmaker has won initial support for a proposal to create a tax-refund checkoff for an Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Fund.

Republican Senator Doug Lamborn says he wants to make Coloradans more aware of the growing need for money and donors for organ- and
tissue-transplant programs.

The checkoff would join several others already listed on the state's tax forms, including Colorado Domestic Abuse and the Pet Overpopulation fund.

Lamborn's bill would also eliminate a requirement that organ donors sign the back of drivers licenses.

The US Department of Health and Human Services says 18 people nationwide die each day because not enough organs are available.
