A Denver Post review says a state board who oversees doctors usually lets mistake-prone physicians off with no more than a slap on the wrist.
The review finds several doctors received light or no punishment after patients died or were seriously injured.
The Post bases its findings on records for the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners and lawsuits filed in the past 5 years.
The board did not revoke any licenses last year and dismisses about 80 percent of the complaints it receives each year.
