The start of the work week brings in a series of disturbances... we'll see better, more widespread rain chances across S Colorado, cloudier skies and the possibility of locally heavy rain. The burn scar will need to be closely monitored during the early portions of the week due to an elevated risk for flash flooding. Some storms, especially in the E Plains, could become strong to severe with large hail, strong winds and lightning. Head on over to the "Weather" tab for a full look at the week ahead.
(Stanton, California-AP) -- Police looking for the kidnapper and killer of five-year-old Samantha Runnion have made an arrest in connection with the case.
The sheriff of Orange County, California says 27-year-old Alejandro Avila was arrested Friday morning.
The arrest came after search warrants were served overnight at an apartment complex near where the girl's body was found on Tuesday.
The sheriff didn't provide any details about the suspect. Before the announcement was made -- authorities played a tape of a 9-1-1 call from a man who reported finding the body.
The man told the operator, “I'm so scared. It was a little kid.''
Samantha was taken from near her Los Angeles-area home on
Monday, by a man who drove up and asked for help finding his puppy.
Her nude body was found a day later, about 50 miles away. Authorities said she had been sexually assaulted and then smothered.
A woman identified as Adelina Avila says her apartment was searched, and her son is being detained. She says, “I don't think my son did anything'' -- and that he is cooperating.
