A family visitation center was falling apart until two companies stepped in to fix it up.

The Family Visitation Center located at 701 E. Boulder St. in Colorado Springs is a place for parents who are close to reuniting with their kids who at one point were placed in foster care. The facility is a way for parents to keep in contact with their children as they live apart from them.

The center was like a second home for Valerie Rice. Her three kids were placed in foster care for some time. The visitation center was the only place she could go to stay connected. "The house was the only positive part," said Rice. "You can feel relaxed and natural with your children. It's a great place."

Monday, volunteers from Home Depot and Resource Land Holdings spent the morning fixing up the old visitation center. All it needed was a a little face-lift. Not only did the two companies donate their time to do the work, but they also pitched in $18,000 for materials and supplies.

"We wanted to make sure there was a physical touch too," said Joe Leininger of Resource Land Holdings. "We aren't just writing checks. We're getting involved."

The Family Visitation Center accommodates around 50 families a day, seven days a week. Everything was expected to be done by early afternoon Monday, so families could start using the facility again.
