She was handed down a sentence on Friday of 20 years behind bars for giving at least 16-people hepatitis C.

As part of her plea agreement, 26-year-old Kristen Parker, pleaded guilty to five counts of tampering with a consumer product, and five counts of obtaining a controlled substance by deceit. She also was ordered to surrender her medical license.

Authorities say, Parker, who has Hepatitis C, worked as a surgical technician at the Rose Medical Center in Denver and at the Audubon Surgery Center in Colorado Springs. They say she admitted to stealing syringes filled with Fentanyl, injecting herself with the potent painkiller and then re-filling the syringes with saline. It's why thousands of patients, who were injected with her dirty needles, had to rush to get tested.

Parker will serve her time in a federal prison for a maximum of 20 years. "20-years isn't enough to heal these people," said Savannah Stover who may be one of Parker's victims. Stover says she still doesn't know for sure if she contracted hepatitis C or not.

"The prosecution was not making any type of offer that would have been better than what the likely outcome would have been at trial," said Gregory Graf who is Parker's Attorney.

Stover thinks Parker got off the hook in a different way by not having to go to trial. "She really doesn't have to go through the shame or humiliation. She gets to stay behind the scenes, sign a few papers and go on about her business," said Stover.

Stover believes it should be eye-for-an-eye. Since her victims will have to live with Hepatitis C for the rest of their lives, she should have to live the rest of her life behind bars.

"The fact is, that more prison time isn't going to stop the next Kristen Parker from infecting other people," said Hollynd Hoskins, an attorney for hepatitis C victims. Hoskins says her clients want both surgical centers to own up to what has happened and make sure this never happens again.

Parker got caught in July and appeared to be remorseful during questioning. "If I would have known, it would have been different, but now I have to live with what I did for the rest of my life and so does everyone else," said Kristen Parker.

"Truly, my prayers are out to those families," said Stover.

A judge will formally sentence Parker December 11, 2009.

Jeffrey Sweetin who is with the Denver Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration released this statement. "The guilty plea today (Friday) by Kristen Parker brings an end to a story that captured the attention of many in the state of Colorado. I hope, however, that this investigation will start a new awareness and discussion in our state of how the abuse of drugs by a few can affect all of us."

I have a question for the Julie CST. I am wondering how she was able to put her dirty needles back without notice. Aren't these sealed? Before you inject a patient, don't you have to open the package that contains the needle? I don't understand how this happened.

20 years should cure that drug habit of hers. Maybe.

I am a surgical tech myself in Denver and I cant believe she only got 20 years, what with good behavior she will be out in 15, the people she infected have been given a death sentence, not to mention the mounting health bills they will incur. she has so gotten off easy not to mention the bad name that she has given our profession that i love and enjoy doing each day.
