(Denver-AP) -- The federal Centers for Disease Control says 17 Colorado residents sickened during an E-coli outbreak had specimens that matched a hamburger sample from the ConAgra Beef plant in Greeley.

Results of the weekend C.D.C. test confirmed testing done by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in Denver.

Four of the 17 Colorado residents whose specimens were tested by the C.D.C. were hospitalized and released.

E-coli can cause bloody diarrhea and intense abdominal cramps. Children and the elderly are at most risk for hospitalization.

Proper cooking can kill E-coli.
