(Colorado Spring-AP) -- A ceremony next month to honor firefighters who have died in the line of duty will likely attract fewer people than expected.

Thousands will attend the unveiling of the names at the Colorado Springs Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.

The memorial will honor 426 firefighters from the United States and Canada who died in action in the past year, including 343 New York City firefighters who died September eleven.

But with several memorial services happening throughout the country on or near the anniversary of the September eleven attack, organizers expect many families won't make it to the event September 21.

New York will host an event at Madison Square Garden in October, and the national firefighter's memorial will take place the same month in Maryland. The one in Colorado Springs is the international memorial.
