Hands-Free Cell Phones Only

State lawmakers gathering this week will consider whether to require hands-free devices for people driving while they talk on their cell phones.

The bill would let police cite a driver for using their hands only if they were pulled over for some other reason. It also wouldn't assess any points against a drivers' license unless there was an accident.

Representative Michael Garcia is sponsoring the measure. He sponsored a similar bill last year that was rejected as too strict.

The House Information and Technology Committee was expected to take up the bill on Monday.
