Members of the House Transportation Committee voted to increase the requirements for learners permits for the second time in six years, but warn they're running out of patience.
House Bill 1017 was sent to the Appropriations committee following a tear-filled discussion with parents who've lost children.
The bill would require teens to have a learner's permit for 12 months instead of the current six months before they can get a full driver's license.
It would also give teenagers an incentive to take a driver's education course. Those who take the course could begin driving at 15 instead of 16.
