(Silverton-AP) -- The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is offering rides to Silverton again.

Yesterday was the first day of service to Silverton since fire danger forced the railroad to make abbreviated runs in late June.

About 900 people exited the first two trains in a month.

A task force of county, forest and fire officials decided last week to allow the trains to run because the railroad agreed to take several precautions to prevent forest fires.

In the mountain town of Silverton, summer is supposed to be the time to make enough money to get through the next winter.

The restored train service should be a boost for businesses.
