Mesa Verde National Park will reopen on Friday.
The park has been closed since a wildfire swept through the park
last week. Morefield Campground, Wetherill Mesa, Far View Visitor
Center and the Far View Terrace Restaurant and Gift Shop will open
tomorrow. Other parts will reopen as soon as crews finish cleaning
The wildfire burned two employee houses, damaged a water tank
and destroyed a sewage treatment plant and power and phone lines
within hours of when it was reported July 29.
Since then, no other structures were damaged. One wall of the
Cedar Tree Tower archaeological site was scorched, but none of the
park's other archaeological sites was damaged.
