1st Lt. Tyler E. Parten, 24, of Arkansas, died Sept. 10 in Konar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.

1st Lt. Tyler E. Parten, 24, of Arkansas, died Sept. 10 in Konar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire.

1st Lt. Tyler E. Parten joined the Army in May of 2007 and had been with the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4Th Brigade Combat Team, 4Th Infantry Division, since March of 2008.

Fort Carson says 1st Lt. Parten received several awards: National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge.

The Department of Defense says 1st Lt. Tyler E. Parten was there in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
