Steel Company & Union Reach Agreement

The United Steelworkers Union and Oregon Steel have announced a tentative settlement of a labor dispute. That comes more than six years after about a thousand members of the union walked off the job at the company's Pueblo plant.

The settlement will have to be approved by the union's membership and the board and stockholders of Oregon Steel and officials expect the result to be a new five-year contract.

Officials for the Steelworkers say the pact calls for workers who lost their mill jobs after a 1997 strike to get back pay, "return rights" and pension credits.
