Possible E.coli Death

Updated: Thu 8:31 AM, Aug 08, 2002

(Denver-AP) -- Ohio health officials say E.coli bacteria from a
woman who died last month matched the genetic fingerprint of a
strain associated with a national beef recall.

Ohio Department of Health spokesman Kristopher Weiss says the
68-year-old Columbus, Ohio-area woman died July 10.

He says the exact cause of death had not been determined. Officials say that would make it the first death associated with meat ConAgra Beef Company of Greeley began recalling June 30 and later expanded to a total of 19 million pounds.

Officials estimate the tainted meat has sickened a total of 47
people in 14 states.
