Colorado Springs has its first murder of 2004. Gunfire in an alley east of downtown Colorado Springs has left one person dead. It happened around 2:30 p.m. Monday near the 2200 block of E. Platte Avenue.
Police say about 5 or 6 gunshots were heard coming from the alley. Moments later, a young man was found bleeding on the ground. He was dead by the time officers arrived.
Investigators say the man was in his early-to-mid 20's. He was standing with a woman in the alley when another man approached them. A fight apparently broke out, which lead to the shooting.
The gunman then left---going east down the alley. Police aren't saying who the victim is until they notify next of kin. They are talking with the woman and other witnesses to find out more about the shooting.
