The number of school children in the state who can't afford school lunches seems to be on the rise.

Last year, more than 226 thousand kids qualified for free or reduced-price lunches.

Many school officials are now supporting Congressional bills that would widen free-lunch eligibility.

They say they've seen more and more children have a hard time coming up with the 40 cents for a reduced-price lunch.
