Colorado Springs Home Invasion

By  |

A home invasion in Colorado Springs sent one person to the hospital. Now police are looking for two suspects. It happened Wednesday morning at an apartment complex near the intersection of Powers and Palmer Park.

Police say this is an unusual case---it's not often that someone breaks into a home, shoots someone and, from what police know, do not steal anything.

A woman was shot in the head while she was lying in bed, talking on her cell phone. A neighbor says her son took her to the hospital before paramedics arrived. "The door was not kicked in, so it could be someone who they knew who entered the apartment,” said Sgt. John Taylor of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

No one was home when officers arrived. The victim and both witnesses spent the morning at Memorial Hospital, where the woman was treated and released.

Meanwhile, at the scene, police faced a challenging task. "We don't have anyone here to interview, that's the problem. We're just canvassing the area looking for bits and pieces of information." Officers went door-to-door, asking neighbors for any information.

Both suspects got away, and police say they could face attempted murder charges.
