Colorado Springs police confirms to 11 News cyclist Norman Schurr was involved in an accident Tuesday on Mark Dabling. Penrose Hospital confirms Thursday that Schurr, 52, has passed away.
Just before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Schurr was riding north on a bike path along Mark Dabling Blvd., just north of the Goose Gossage Park. Colorado Springs police say Schurr turned west in front of a black Nissan heading north on Mark Dabling.
Schurr was rushed to the hospital with serious head and hip injuries. He was listed as critical condition at Penrose Hospital until Thursday when he passed away. The El Paso County Coroner's Office has not released a cause of death at this time.
Schurr was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The driver was not ticketed. Alcohol, drugs and speed are not factors in the accident.
A law went into effect last month designed to keep cyclists safer on the road. Drivers have to give them three feet of space while passing or face a possible $110 fine.

You guys can argue about bikers’ rights all day long (or car drivers’ rights). However the facts are very simple: when you put cars and bikes together on the road, if there is crush between the two, always the car wins and the bike looses. And I am not trying to take any sides here; all I am doing is stating the facts.
And where does it say that these bicylist should be treated special..? IF they want to ride on the streets they should be held responsible for their actions...pay road taxes through licensing their little bicycles...make it mandatory for them to have insurance in case they cause an accident..whose going to pay for the damage on the vehicle that he ran into? It all started in Fort Collins years ago and then has gradually worked it's way into our community..they don't deserve any special treatment just because they are on this choice of transportation. I have had my car spit on...flipped off and had to pull over to the opposite side of the road on Mark Dabling Blvd.which I use on a daily basis. My condolences to his family but he made a choice...no one elses fault.
Everyone just needs to stop the drama MARY - People on bikes have the right to ride in the streets so deal with it - when your driving you usually can see someone on the bike ahead of you (most of the time) so why dont you take extra time and pay more attention incase the person on the bike isn't paying attentioin for the most part they are paying attention you act like they are out there getting and slowing down traffic on purpose - some people just might not judge correctly when on a bike and its sad for anyone to be hurt or get killed while riding a bike so next time pay attention to whats going on since you always almost hit a biker - show some extra caution when you see someone on a bike - wouldn't you rather spend the extra time doing than and making sure everyone gets home ok?! quit sterotyping everyone on bikes as bad "drivers" I stupid people doing stupid things driving cars daily that should not be on the road!
