A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
CPT Eric T. Paliwoda, 28, of Goodyear, Arizona, was killed on Jan. 2nd in Balad, Iraq. Paliwoda was in his command post when it came under mortar attack. He died of injuries sustained in the attack. Two other soldiers were injured and taken to the 21st Combat Support Hospital.
Paliwoda was assigned to 4th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division Mechanized, based at Fort Carson.
