Continuing to track rain/snow showers throughout southeast Colorado this morning as wet, gloomy and cool conditions continue. If you are hitting the roads in the higher elevation (Teller/Fremont/Custer/ Monument) make sure you allow a little extra time as some roads may be a little snow covered. Wet pavement remains everywhere else. We'll see rain/snow showers continue for most of our Monday, clearing out before midnight. Head on over to the "Weather" tab for a full look at the week ahead.
After losing everything in the Castle West fire, evacuee Nina Rethemeyer had reason to celebrate Sunday night. Nearly 2 weeks after flames shot through the building, 2 of her cats proved they still had some of their 9 lives left. Dangling from the bucket of a Colorado Springs Utilities boom truck, Rethemeyer plucked her cats, Tinkers and Boo Boo, from a third-floor apartment balcony. She used the cat's favorite treats, whipped cream and Meow Mix, to coax them out. Rethemeyer has 5 cats, 2 of which were rescued by fire fighters last week. The fifth cat, Elmo, remains in the burnt-out complex, and was last seen sunning itself, Sunday afternoon. Rethemeyer hopes more whipped cream will lure Elmo into a cat trap left on the balcony overnight. Colorado Springs Utilities, the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, and the Colorado Springs Fire Department aided in the rescue.
