Colorado Cares Day

Hundreds from across the state helped restore areas burned by wildfires on the fourth annual Colorado Cares Day.

More than 900 volunteers met at Manitou Lake Saturday to spread seed and restabilize soil burned by the 137,000 acre Hayman fire this summer.

Officials hope the effort will prevent erosion on the newly bare ground.

Governor Owens joined in the work. Owens started the program as a way to promote volunteerism.

Owens says he thinks volunteers will return to the area, “for years to come.''
