11 News has learned that another person is facing first degree murder charges in connection with the Castle West fire, which was declared under control Thursday.
23-year old Derrick Nicholas Johnson was charged late Thursday afternoon. He had been in the El Paso County jail on charges of felony menacing. Johnson is the cousin of 36-year old Gene Johnson, who was charged with murder on Wednesday. Police believe the fire may be related to an earlier domestic violence case. Police say they don't anticipate any more arrests at this point.
Investigators discovered two bodies inside the burned remains of the apartment complex, but have not yet been able to remove them.
Colorado Springs Fire officials have declared the Castle West Fire under control. Crews have completed 100% of a primary search of the building and have NOT found any additional victims, but caution there may be more. Crews still need to do a more detailed, secondary search.
The number of firefighters injured has risen to 4, but their injuries are reported to be minor.
Authorities located the 1990, Gold Acura that was seen early Tuesday morning near the Castle West apartment complex. Police are calling the car a "vehicle of interest," but say the driver of the vehicle is NOT a suspect in the case.
