Grief counselors are being made available at Berthoud High School following a two-vehicle crash that critically injured two students.

The Colorado State Patrol says 17-year-olds Tyler Carron and Nikos Landeros were pinned between two vehicles Monday while trying to change a flat tire.

The two were at the rear of an Isuzu Trooper attempting to remove a spare tire from the tailgate when a Toyota Land Cruiser hit them from behind on Larimer County Road 17.

Thompson School District spokesman Wes Fothergill says Carron has lost both legs as a result of the crash, and Landeros lost one.

The boys and two friends were returning home from a school dance when the crash occurred.

Carron and Landeros are both members of the Berthoud High wrestling team.
