A 4-year-old Colorado Springs girl is in the hospital after suffering major burns in a freak accident.

Police were called to a home on E. Brookside Tuesday evening. They say once they arrived they learned a 9-year-old boy, the victim's cousin, was playing with a lighter and a can of hairspray. Another child threw a bottle of rubbing alcohol at the 9-year-old who had an open flame on the lighter. The alcohol splattered on the legs of the little girl, and spread to her arms.

The girl was rushed to Memorial Hospital with 2nd degree burns on both legs, and her right arm. She was later transferred to Denver Children's Hospital for treatment. She's in stable condition Wednesday and her family tells 11 News she should recover.

Police say there were several adults in the area, but the 9-year-old boy admitted he kept the lighter hidden whenever an adult was nearby.

According to police, they don't suspect neglect, but the Department of Human Services has been notified.

I agree suzy, this is a case of why some parents need to be sterizlied. plenty of people but no cared about the actions of the kids , I guess it will be the taxpayer paying for this kids medical bills , because of the actions of stupid neglectful parents.

Geez people, what is this, stupid parent week? Why don't people actually pay attention to what their kids are doing?! These people couldnt tell that the kid was hiding something? They didnt wonder why their 4 year old walked off with a bottle of rubbing alcohol? They didnt hear the hair spray being sprayed and torched? When does the fact that people are crappy parents actually become a crime? Oh, that's right, it doesn't, and THAT is why the world is full of idiots.
