(Denver-AP) -- Governor Owens today signed legislation to help
farmers and ranchers increase water supplies during this year's
The bill was passed during a special state legislative session
last month and provides loans and grants to farmers to help them
supplement water supplies by purchasing it from others.
The bill also creates an emergency one (M) million dollar
drought response fund.
Owens says nature is testing Colorado's farmers and ranchers
this year as they work to weather the severe drought.
He says the new law will provide direct emergency assistance to help these Coloradans get water they need.
