An El Paso County 911 dispatcher says it was nerve wracking helping a couple deliver their baby at home.
Amy Giegrich's husband called 911 when his wife's water broke around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Seven minutes later, the baby was born before paramedics could even arrive.
The 911 dispatcher got a chance to meet the family Tuesday morning at a Colorado Springs hospital.
HeatherLynn Schreier says she initially thought it was a domestic violence call because she heard screaming in the background. But, then she heard the man say my wife is in labor. Schreier says she followed written instruction the 911 dispatcher center has available to help walk Shawn Giegrich Senior through the delivery process.
"Keeping him calm was important and making sure mom was okay. Once baby was delivered making sure she was ok too. It was nerve wracking. But, its such a privilege to be here and see what happens in the end," said 911 Dispatcher HeatherLynn Schreier.
This is the couple's fourth child. They named her Faith Marie. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 1.5 ounces. Mom and baby are doing well.
