Witnesses tell 11 News there was a mother bear and a cub in a tree on the Mountain Post and officials had the whole area blocked off while spectators gathered around. A DOW official says the bears ran away on their own a little later.

The mother and cub were in a tree right inside Gate 1, near the middle school. Fort Carson officials had the area blocked off for safety of everyone around.

A child development center was evacuated at one point because the bears were in the parking lot, which is an emergency standard that parents are familiar with, Fort Carson says. They move children from the east building to the west building, although there were only a few children at the center at the time of the evacuation. They were also redirecting families who were dropping off their children to avoid putting the children walking into the center in any dangerous situation. Those kids have all returned to the center safely.

Witnesses say there was quite the crowd gathered around the area, hoping to catch a glimpse of the pair before they ran off.

Division of Wildlife officials say the two ran off on their own and no one was injured.

skill, black bears are not man eaters or to be politically correct human eaters. i think you may have sour blood HAHAHAHA just a joke dont take it too seriously. a black bear does not kill a person because it likes the taste of human blood read the DOW website.

The bear sighting today was very exciting. It was a wonderful learning experience for the few children that actually got to watch the bears through the windows. The center director and the Military Police handled the situation very well and made sure that nobody was put in harms way. The DOW simply waited for the bears to come down and followed them back into a safer habitat. We see all kinds of mothers and babies at the day care but we have never seen a bear and her cub playing in the parking lot. I guess you could say now we have seen it all.

Yes the DOW will not kill them so dont be stupid only time they will kill a bear is when it kills a human because of the taste and sweetness of our blood after having a taste of it that is all a bear searches for that is when it has to be put down
