Authorities say a 5-year-old boy has died after he was found in a pond in northwestern Colorado.

The Steamboat Springs Pilot & Today reports the boy had wandered away from his parents on Thursday near the boundary of Eagle and Routt counties.

Search teams from both counties responded.

The boy's name wasn't immediately released.

Eagle County sheriff's spokeswoman Jessie Mosher says the boy was given CPR on the way to Vail Valley Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead.
