Saturday marked one of the deadliest days in months for foreign troops in Afghanistan.

Eight service members were killed in three separate attacks. Sources confirmed to CBS that seven were Americans.

Five U.S. troops were killed Saturday when a roadside bomb went off in southern Afghanistan. The Taliban has claimed to be behind the attack.

Three NATO service members were killed in two other attacks in Afghanistan Saturday. In the first, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said an Afghan soldier turned his gun on two service members, killing both. A U.S. military spokesman told CBS that the two service members were American.

In the other, one service member was killed in an insurgent attack in northern Afghanistan. ISAF did not release any further information.
