For the past few months we have been telling you about some of the difficulties faced by families whose loved ones are deployed. We have also told you how the community has stepped in to help them.
Operation Deep Discount is KKTV's partnership with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. With your help, we have tackled some big needs but this one may top them all.
A mother and her seven children were living in Germany while the husband and father is serving in Iraq. Suddenly a death in the family brings them all here to Colorado Springs with just the clothes on their backs.
"It's been really, really bad."
Carolyn Moore says this is the most stressful time of her life. Her husband, Sgt. Marcus Moore requested a leave from the Army but so far it has been denied.
In the meantime, Carolyn's brother died leaving behind 3 small children. That death left Carolyn's mother so stricken she suffered a stroke and a heart attack.
Now, Carolyn's caring for her mother and raising her seven children here in Colorado Springs. To make matter worse, all the families belongings are in Germany where they were stationed.
So, they are living in a unfurnished house with a few borrowed cots, daybed, and a playpen.
"We have no winter clothes at all. We have no furniture."
Joe Hejum with The Homefront Cares heard about the situation. His group which helps families of deployed troops -- paid part of the Moore's September rent but now their bills are mounting, as well as, their tangible needs.
"The community needs to come through and help her because they are in a real tough position."
We brought the youngsters some toys but they need a washer and dryer not to mention a place for the family to sit and relax.
"I would just grateful if anybody did anything and gave us anything because that is what we need right now to survive you know."
