My step father, a Gurnee, IL Lt. Firefighter/ EMT arrived on the sceene approx 4 min after the incident. He did vitals on the injured and had to use the Jaws of Life to open up the RV. He was behind us about 20 minutes. We were leaving from Pitkin/ Gunnison. That could have been my Family. We saw the ambulances racing through Salida and heard the full story from him afterwards. Very sad

Sorry to hear of Deaths. God Bless them. Lucky we saw a sign when leaving Gunnison of the accident. Looked at map in saddle bag of Motorcycle and took hwy 114 SE to 285 and back North to Salida area. About 45 miles total reroute. Traffic was busy and stalled on hwy 24 E out of Buena Vista area as well. Crazy day for driving in Mountains but made it home safely. Thoughts and prayers for all involved in this terrible accident.

Reopned 4pm. 6 hr closure. Many vehicles rerouted via Marshall pass or Old Monarch only if vechicles could clear the roads. SUV's. Trucks with trailers, Marshall was closed around 3:00 due to traffic jam, too many vehicles being rerouted towards Poncha Springs. RV left beyond recognition. Nissan Altima was only identifiable by looking at rear the rest was beyond recognition. The Nissan car had Florida lic. plates. Cars and motorcycles stranded for hours.
