Firefighting is scaled back today at a wildfire
near Rocky Mountain National Park as authorities investigate the
second fatal aircraft crash there in two weeks.

Fifty-two-year-old Gordon Knight of Boulder died yesterday after
his helicopter crashed while he was working to drop water on hot
spots within the four-thousand-acre blaze.

Knight was flying a 32-year-old French helicopter when radioed
at about 6:30 p-m and reported --quote-- ``I'm going down.''
Dispatchers unsuccessfully tried to contact him three times.

The Larimer County coroner said today that Knight died
immediately from head injuries.

The helicopter went down about five miles away from where a
slurry bomber crashed about two weeks ago, killing two.
