Colorado State Patrol is investigating an accident that claimed the life of a semi-truck driver and sent the truck up in flames.

The Colorado State Patrol says a 2006 Freightliner, driven by 48-year-old Allen Cook from Las Animas, was traveling eastbound on Colorado 160 Tuesday when it went off the left side of the road and collided with a plastic barricade post.

The semi-truck continued off road before overcorrecting to the right. The truck then rolled and collided with a second plastic post. The unrestrained driver, Allen Cook, was ejected. Colorado State Patrol says the truck continued eastbound coming to rest in a barrow ditch on its roof. The ejected driver also came to rest in front of the truck.

The semi-truck was carrying 8400 gallons of gas, which caught fire, engulfing the truck in flames.

Speed and alcohol are not contributing factors to the crash, although inattentive driving may have been the cause.
